Ferry to Koh Lanta Island
The 8 hour journey from Bangkok to Koh Lanta Island in Southern Thailand was well worth the reward that awaited us at Pra-Ae Beach!
After enjoying our last Thai style breakfast at Shanti Lodge, we hopped a meter taxi to Bangkok’s International Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to catch our flight to Krabi in Southern Thailand. Our next destination is Koh Lanta Island!

Pad Thai for $1
After traveling across the globe from San Francisco to Newark to Hong Kong, and finally Bangkok, we have finally settled into our new life in Asia. It’s been a long first three days in Bangkok since we arrived here on 1/3/11. We are staying at a cute family style guest house called Shanti Lodge, nestled away from the tourist area in downtown Bangkok. The exchange rate is currently 31 baht for 1 USD.
Our days in Bangkok have been filled with amazing Thai cuisine for around $1 per meal, long walks around the city passing through the ancient Wat temples and bustling markets as you turn every corner of the city, bumpy boat rides along the river and canals, and last but not least relaxing Thai massages for under $8. Shanti Lodge Bangkok
Situated next to Thailand’s National Library
on Samsen Road in the Thewet District lies the Shanti Lodge, our first place of stay in Bangkok, Thailand. We chose this lodge mainly due to its location away from the central tourist areas. A step out of the lodge and you’ll find yourself among a very local Thai community.
The Shanti Lodge is very close to the Chao Phraya river and walking distance to the Thewet (N15) river ferry stop and busy Khoasan Road. The best thing about Shanti Lodge is
